The First movie we watched for the Year 2008!!! AVP 2 is the sequel of AVP (2004)...

The one and only Predator on the hunt to eliminate the fast multiplying aliens whom had crashed landed onto earth... The humans are totally no match for the aliens and are soon being taken down one by one... Great special effects used as per its first AVP installation where the total grossness of the aliens fully exhibited... One can also frequently be in the shoe of the predator hunting down the errant aliens from his sight of view just like a night vision goggle scope...

The Rock has arrived big time... In this movie GamePlan, we seen many other dimensions of Rock's acting especially his soft side unlike typical works that mostly depicted him as a big tough guy... There was a scene where he was stroking the guitar singing so as to humor his angry little daughter to smile again... Also, the plot had the Rock learning ballet which is even more amusing when seeing him in action... His little costar Payton playing his daughter is witty and charming as an 8 year old... Likes doll and slowly transforming her dad from being self centered to a person appreciating what is around him... Very funny and entertaining movie to watch with Rock's football team mates providing laughters too...

Erica Bain (acted by Jodie Foster) changed dramatically after some thugs bashed her and her fiance that put her in a coma for 3 weeks and her fiance dead... She becomes inconsolable and bears a grudge within... Erica Bain, a normal working radio presenter in the day has turned into someone who would kill bad guys or bullies without batting a eyelid at night... Her expression cold and locked out... The ending was especially masterful coming from a police who empathise with Erica Bain and said, "if wanna kill, kill with a legal gun"... The finale sees Erica Bain finally gotten the address of the thugs that destroyed her blissful life and wih her going over to gun them down one by one until the very last one intercepted by the police officer where he remarkably manipulate the situation to Erica Bain favour... Impressive!!!

The Pang's Brothers reowned for their supernatural works now based their new movie, "Detective", at Thailand where the plot develops with its main lead, Aaron Kwok... He plays a private detective that eventually sees him piercing up a murder conspirary that involves a number of persons.. You may wander whether there is a huge amount of horror scenes but in fact, the Pang's brothers in this new showcase showed their range of abilities to create a thriller adventure type of experience for movie goers to go along with thier usual horror expertise... At times, humour is also being added in the movie especially between the co-star, a thai police officer... A very refreshing showpiece n with Aaron taking the lead role adds more spice and entertaining value... He looks so funny when he's scared or in fear but that's also where his acting is real and good... Nice movie to watch thats for sure...

Our movie journey takes us to a thriller where its movie plot could be liken to a recent film called "28 Weeks Later"... Similar but we would not say it is the exact same bcos one thing for sure there is nothing gory as compared to 28 weeks...

In this movie, The Invasion, Nicole Kidman plays the mother of Oliver, a young boy... An alien virus has infiltrated earth via a space shuttler crash which has the ability to merge with human cells and then after sleeping will turn them into calm and composed beings without much emotions...

(Imagine yourself and people around you having no emotions... no laughter, no sadness, no pain... everyone living together harmoniously but with no expressions and no feelings... can you live in such a world???)

Nicole Kidman and his son got to escape from the infected areas... Although Nicole Kidman was infected by her husband... She used every determination and means of hers to not fall asleep and at the same time pretending to be like the rest of the infected so as to fight her way out to safety with her son...

A plus point is the tempo and sound effect of the movie makes it even more exciting to watch...

This week we finally managed to watch movies on two consecutive nights - Naraka 19 and Premobition... why did we watch this movie? mainly because we love to watch horror movies... hehe... Another reason is FM Yes 933 had been promoting this movie for the last week and we are interested in why hell got 19 levels and not just 18 levels... what is the 19th level???

The art of hypnotism depicted in the plot where the bulk of the content adapted from a best selling Chinese novel written by Choi Tsun. This novel is reported to have sold more than 2 million copies in China over the last two years and now had been translated into many languages for worldwide distribution... Characters in the movie are being manipulated to counter their inner fears through a handphone game mode concept comprising different levels of hell starting from the 1st level till the very last 18th so as to reach the elusive 19th... Kinda like a leveling up battle and if one ever fails in any level before 19th, it will be game over and the person will seek to end his/her life...

Imagine yourself starting your week from Thursday then Monday, Saturday, Tuesday, Friday, Sunday then Wednesday where the real gist of the movie is unveal... The sequence of the days can be quite confusing for many i believe but once you get used to the ad hoc basis of linda's life, it can be kinda interesting and fun... We will be always constantly having doubts and questions being piece together like a jigsaw puzzle as the days go by... Moreover i guess the way is being produced is definitely refreshing although it takes one to really get the hang of it...

Disney, Pixar and Costco worked together to have the first movie-branded wine, 2004 Ratatouille Bourgogne Chardonnay. Due to complaints on the standards in labeling which restrict usage of cartoon characters to avoid under-age drinkers. These bottles will no longer be available in the public. But the producer had bottled 500 cases of the wine with label (shown on the left), will they become a collectible??

We caught the Ratatouille sneak today, it is finally in Singapore cinema now. have been waiting for months... Actual release date is 30 August.

Ratatouille is another creatively produced animation by Pixar where the normally unpleasant creature of a rat can be portrayed so lovable and inspiring. Remy the main lead rat of the movie have the uncanny ability of the sense of smell which makes it ever enthu to seek a life that is very unexpected of a rat - to make things and for this matter to be a CHEF...

The relationship between Remy and the boy chef, Linguini is quite intriguing especially where the scenes they were learning to accomodate to each other so as to cook as one was really quite hilarious. Remy's father and his brother, Emile are also integral characters of the movie. When his dad finally was convinced with his son's aspiration, he actually mobilise the whole rat clan to assist Remy in the cooking. Imagine the whole restaurant kitchen filled with rats preparing the food which is so extraordinary....

Ratatouille is really a highly entertaining movie that will not disappoint and definitely worth the hype and money... If any of your friends or gf like cute stuffs, bring them now to the cinema to watch Rataouille... They will definitely LOVE it!!!!

The Chinese Hungry Ghost Festival is certainly a showcase of Singapore's heritage that's loud and proud.

This explains why director Roystan Tan's latest film, "881" is based entirely on the festival's Getai performers whose job is to take to the stage to entertain the spirits of the dead. It is a story about two girls with one dream - becoming superstar Getai performers at the Hungry Ghost Festival.

"881" revolves around the lives of these flamboyant performers, which the Chinese festival has become synonymous with.

Roystan Tan says: "I actually followed the Queen of Getai, she's known to run like 177 stage shows in a month. So I sat in her car one evening, and see how she actually rushes from one show to another show. I filmed the whole thing down, her dialogue, how she panics and everything, how she runs. So the Papaya Sisters actually follow the way she reacts in the film."

The stars of this film actually go by the name of "Papaya Sisters". Yeo Yann Yann and Mindy Ong are the "Papaya Sisters". Getai performances have always been a hit among the older generation, but this film may just create a whole new fan base.

Mindy says: "I love Hokkien songs, I'm a Hokkien, I speak Hokkien to my family members at home, but honestly speaking that was one point of time when I was much younger. I do feel a bit shy about telling friends that I go and watch Getai. They might think it's kind of like old school. But now come to think about it, it's what makes Singapore special. Getai - I'm so proud of it."
And here is something else everyone behind the film can be proud of.

Lucas Chow, CEO, MediaCorp, says: "This is the only local musical film and it's in Hokkien. And I hope that through this movie, we can introduce the local culture to overseas audiences as well."

Daniel Yun, Managing Director, MediaCorp Raintree Pictures, says: "For a local film, I think the reviews are quite unprecedented. The reviews have been good to excellent."
This film is called "881" because in Chinese "881" is pronounced as pa-pa-yao, quite close to papaya hence the connection.

Perfect Stranger

Immediately after the movie had ended, my mind was like quite in a whirlwind, trying to piece together the various cluster of the flashback at the end of the movie plot of how the so called perfect framing of Harrison Hill (Bruce Willis) was done by Rowena (Halle Berry). Very poetic planning from Rowena right from the beginning although the director will surely not show too much lest reducing the impact of the movie twist right at the end. Instead, the director adopted to slowly reveal the true background of Rowena in parts of the movie throughout and then the real truth about Rowena's role in the murder at the end that will leave audiences amazed and have their mouths wide open. Quite frankly, Miles (Giovanni Ribisi) played a more telling and interesting role that i personally feel makes Bruce Willis pale in importance although both men eventually succumb to the craftiness of Rowena.
